「It was wonderful. Absolutely marvelous. The colors, the dancing, the storytelling elements. It was very clear that they were intentional about using many different forms of storytelling… What I notice is that there are many small stories within one bigger narrative, and it’s trying to track Chinese culture from its inception to modern day. So you have things where it ties into Taoism, ties into Buddhism, ties into the modern conception of spirituality in China today with Falun Gong. So there’s many, many different messages they’re trying to share, as well as sharing China’s multiple ethnic diversities and the way that people move and express themselves in many different minorities as well… You can tell they’ve spent so much time and effort and energy to be so light, and so finesse, and so lithe. It was amazing to see because I’m a dancer myself. So I study movement, and the way that they were able to twirl and balance things on their heads and then emulate horses was incredible. Absolutely incredible.」
